Labrador Builders and Son

Today my two-year-old helped me build a small deck. I like that he loves what I do. I like that what I do is teachable and meaningful to him. I like that what I do creates something tangible in the world. I like that if I want a deck off my front door I go outside with my son and we build one. Then we sand it and oil it and walk on it and jump off it. I like that I have the kind of job that little kids ‘want to be when they grow up’. I also like that my two-year-old’s vocabulary includes “joist hanger”.
